The Journey of Drake Holloway:
From Music to Baseball & Back Again
From the moment he picked up an instrument as a child, music was an integral part of Barry Zito's life. But life has a funny way of taking us on detours, and for Barry, that detour led him to a successful career in major league baseball. After 25 years away from his musical roots, he finally returned to his true passion - not only as a musician, but also as a devoted producer and songwriter who aims to serve artists and bring their creative dreams to life.
Barry's journey back to music was not without its challenges. As he began to invest time and resources into his music and his studio, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was an imposter, undeserving of the success he'd found in his new venture. He wrestled with the idea that he hadn't yet put in the proverbial 10,000 hours required to master his craft.
After some time of introspection and self examination, rather than focusing on his own achievements, he was reminded that the purpose of his work was to create a safe and relaxed environment for artists to explore their creativity. By removing his ego from the equation, Barry was able to find a renewed sense of purpose in his music production journey.
The choice to adopt the music producer moniker "Drake Holloway" was inspired by his father, Joe Zito. As an immigrant struggling to find work under the name Zito, Joe made the bold decision to reinvent himself as Drake Holloway. This transformative change opened the door to numerous musical opportunities, ultimately culminating in his remarkable achievement as the conductor and arranger for the legendary Nat King Cole. In embracing the Drake Holloway name, the younger Holloway honors both his father's legacy and the power of reinvention in the pursuit of one's dreams.
For Barry, taking the music producer name of Drake Holloway further solidifies his dedication to stepping away from the ego-driven persona one develops during a successful major league sports career. By distancing himself from his past success as an athlete, Barry is making it clear that his primary motivation is to help others achieve their artistic visions and help bring those to life.
Now, as the founder of Childlike Inc., Drake has wholeheartedly returned to his first love: music. His dedication to providing his studio, "The Playground," a supportive space for artists to create their biggest dreams, is a testament to his passion for music and his commitment to serving others.
With a heart full of passion and a newfound clarity of purpose, Drake Holloway has made an inspiring journey from a young boy with a love for music, to a major league baseball star, and finally back home to his musical roots. His story serves as a powerful reminder that our true passions never leave us – they simply wait for us to embrace them once again.
